Rev. Terrence J. Hazel

Father Hazel has been with St. Michael's Parish since 1997, and as Pastor oversees the operation of the Parish, and serves the Sacramental and Pastoral needs of the people.  Father Hazel has studied at Athenaeum of Ohio where he received a BA in Philosophy and an MA in Theology.  Later on, Father Hazel studied at Ursuline College where he received a Masters degree in Education Administration.  Father Terry has two brothers, Tom and Ronnie (d), and two sisters; Diane Wiemer, and Nancy Hazel.  In his free time, Father Terry enjoys bicycling, playing the organ, and golfing.

Deacon Tom Soich

Deacon Tom Soich was ordained a Permanent Deacon in November 1995 by Bishop Benedict Franzetta.  Deacon Tom has been serving St. Michael's since he was assigned to the parish in March 2000.  He is part of our professional staff, as the parish's Bookkeeper.   In addition, he also trains Liturgical Ministers for our parish, he ministers to the Altar Guild, coordinates the Prison Ministry at the Youngstown county jail, and Deacon Tom is the Spiritual Leader for Christ Renews His Parish - Men's Renewal.

Maureen Hall

Pastoral Minister for Youth/Liturgy/RCIA

Ms. Hall returned to St. Michael Parish in 2007 as Director of Youth Ministry, a position she previously held before taking several years off to pursue a PhD in theology at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.  As of July 1, 2011, she has also taken over the duties as Pastoral Minister of Liturgy & RCIA, and as the Spiritual Leader for Christ Renews His Parish - Women's Renewal..  In addition to her doctoral work, Ms. Hall has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies from Ursuline College in Cleveland , and a Master of Arts in Theology from the University of Notre Dame.  Ms. Hall has been an avid choir singer, and sometimes sings with the St. Michael Adult choir.  In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, gardening, studying philosophy and playing with her cats.

Joan Lawson

Pastoral Minister for Catechesis

Mrs. Lawson joined the staff of Saint Michael Parish in July, 2011.  She is responsible for overseeing the catechetical program for Generations of Faith, FIRE, and DCC.  She also coordinates the sacramental preparation process for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist; coordinates Children’s Liturgy of the Word; and implements the Diocesan Child Protection Policy for the parish.  She has a BA in History from Youngstown State University , an MA in History and a Certificate in Historical Agency Administration from Northeastern University in Boston , and a Masters in Religious Education from Loyola University of New Orleans.  Bill Lawson is her husband, and Meghan and Brian Lawson are her stepchildren.

 

Dr. Anita Gorman

Director of Music Ministry

Dr. Gorman has been working with St. Michael's since 1978.  She left briefly in 1985 and returned in 1989.  She plays many instruments during Mass, including the organ, piano, and guitar.  She directs the St. Michael's Choir, The Brass of St. Michael, serves on the Liturgy Committee, and of course, plans all of the music for the Masses.  Mrs. Gorman attended Queens College in New York City where she received a B.A. in English.  She also attended the University of Wisconsin and Kent State University where she received her M.A. and Ph.D. in English.  She has a husband, William, a son Peter, and a daughter Ingrid, as well as a grandson, Patrick and granddaughter, Imogene.  In her spare time, Dr. Gorman enjoys studying Italian, reading and writing, and learning to play the violin.

 

Stephanie Howley

Office Manager

Mrs. Howley joined St. Michael's office staff in October 2006 and is the parish's full-time Office Manager.  Mrs. Howley attended Youngstown State University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.  After having been part of the office staff at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Youngstown, she then held various positions in area companies, working mostly as a Human Resource Manager, before coming to St. Michael.  Mrs. Howley happily resides in Austintown with her husband, Tom.  In her spare time, she is busy helping her husband on projects to update their home, and she enjoys watching Cleveland Indians baseball, attending concerts, walking, and spending time with friends and family, including 3 young nieces.

 

Sharon Harpster

Mrs. Harpster has been with St. Michael Parish since 1989.  She is a Liturgical Minister, Wedding Coordinator, Parish Council Secretary, and Mass Coordinator.  She has a husband, Jim, and two sons, Rick and Brian.  Rick, his wife, Becca, and daughter, Jillian, live in Chicago, and Brian lives in North Carolina.  In her spare time, Mrs. Harpster enjoys golf, gourmet cooking, and traveling.

Rex Ewing

Maintenance

 

Mr. Ewing has been with St. Michael's Parish since 1993.  He is responsible for total parish maintenance and upkeep.  He studied at Leetonia High School and spent fourteen months overseas in a tour of duty in Vietnam.  He has three sons, Rex Jr., David, and Joe.  In his spare time he enjoys gardening, home repair, yard care, and landscaping.
